A Disappointing Weekend At The Glen For Alex

Isle Of Man racing driver Alex Lloyd completed another round of the Indy Pro series at the historic circuit of Watkins Glen in the AFS racing car on the weekend 2nd-4th June. It was an extremely successful test day on the Friday, with Alex topping the timesheets in the sessions by a substantial amount. Weather was consistent throughout, dry and reasonably warm. The day finished with Alex setting a new track record of 1min 38.2 secs, with the previous record being at 1 min 39.6 secs. This set Alex in a good position for the rest of the weekend. Testing went very well, Alex said. We were trying a brand new set up and made big improvements throughout the day. It was nice to be as fast as we were as it really shows that the hard work that every individual within the team has put in over the last few races is really paying off.

Two Top Seven Finishes for Finnegan

Martin Finnegan finished 6th in today's Supersport Junior TT, following up from his hard-fought seventh in Monday's Superstock race, two more solid TT results for the 25-year old. The Klaffi Honda/Alpha Boilers team rider had initially finished 7th in the Supersport race as well but Ian Hutchinson, who had finished in the runner-up spot, was disqualified after a post race inspection found an illegal component on his machine, despite no advantage having been gained.

Bus deal tips MacTransport

MACQUARIE Bank is expected to establish a new transport fund after announcing the $657 million acquisition of London's fifth biggest bus company, Stagecoach.

The bank already has the passenger shipping operator Isle of Man on its books and is also looking at a number of port assets.

Stagecoach owns and leases 1300 buses, employs around 4300 and owns 10 bus depots and more than 80 route concessions. The concessions, which are issued by the local government body, run for only five to seven years. But the ownership of depots is viewed as a natural barrier to the entry of potential competitors because of the high price of property in London. Seven companies control about 95 per cent of the London bus market.

Macquarie is now linked to more than $30 billion worth of potential transactions.

Rising River

Richmond Water Rescue team has already responded to a number of calls this season on the James River. On Sunday, they had to help rescue a man who slipped on the rocks at Belle Isle and injured himself. This is just one illustration of the potential dangers when the water is rising.

"At five feet, six feet and seven feet, people kind of look at it, misjudge how swollen the river is, misjudge how much water's coming through here. And it's very easy to get in trouble here in the river today," explains Keith Vida of the Richmond Fire Department.

Vida says people tend to stay out of the river when it gets up around 8, 9, and 10 feet because the danger is more obvious. But right now, at the 5 and 6 foot level, it can actually be more dangerous because no one expects it to be.

Monster marlin shows recovery on Gulf Coast

BILOXI — Tournament director Bobby Carter saw the symbolism of the 666-pound blue marlin brought to the scales Friday at the 10th annual Mississippi Gulf Coast Billfish Classic.

Not only was it symbolic of the "devilish" time he had putting this event together in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, but also of survival and recovery.

"More important to me is that it symbolized that while Katrina may have knocked us (the Coast) down, she didn't knock us out," said Carter, director of VIP Services at the sponsoring Isle of Capri Casino in Biloxi. "When they put that first fish up there Friday, and it was that big blue marlin, it meant an awful lot."

In the days after Katrina's Aug. 29th landfall, Carter never thought there'd be a 2006 tournament, at least not here.

TIME TO IMPROVISE

"Really, I thought our chances were zero," he said.

How to Get the Guy: Third, Hammer Him With Questions

How about that? JD says Kris needs to learn how to say no a lot quicker. They show her video from the "Signal Party" and she's talking to a guy named Chris. She tells them on a scale of one to 10, she was into the guy at about a level four. They tell her she talked to the guy for over an hour, and she wasn't even interested in him! They give her tips on making a getaway that include telling the guy you see a friend all alone in the corner, and you have to go talk to her, or telling him you have to go mingle. Why keep the lies so polite? You don't like the guy, you want to get away, why not just scream, "OMIGOD! A lion!!" and run into the other room? They move on to her date with Josh and she talks about how much she likes him. She realizes she needs to stop dating all those other losers and concentrate on Josh.
