THE LAND north of Mavis Grind, composed mainly of red granite and diorite, a place both wild and glorious and with some of the best scenery in Shetland, is known as Northmavine. OCEAN CITY - Ocean City police officers pulled two unidentified men from the surf June 25 about 7:30 p.m. Called to the Eighth Street beach here along with firefighters, police saw the two men in the water and in distress. Using floatation devices and a tether rope, three officers went into the water and managed to pull the men to safety. The swimmers had scrapes and cuts on their legs and stomachs from being forced against a drainage pipe by the rough surf and a rip current. They were evaluated at the scene and did not need medical treatment. Later Guards Earlier OCEAN CITY - City council approved extended lifeguard hours at the Eighth, Ninth and 12th street beaches starting last weekend. In the past, July 4 was the normal start for the extended hours on Friday and Saturdays, which keep guards on the beach until 7 p.m.
Australian ace Cameron Donald ensured the 2006 Isle of Man TT Races ended on a high note for the Uel Duncan Racing team when he finished in a sensational second place in the final event of the week, the Senior TT. The 27-year old also put in a lap of 128.445mph to become the third fastest rider ever to have lapped the Mountain Circuit, a staggering performance in what was only his second appearance at the world famous venue. It completed an excellent week for Donald who also finished in the top five in the Superbike and Supersport races. It was a tougher fortnight for the other member of the team, Les Shand, as he fought back from a broken collarbone sustained at the North West 200, just two weeks before the TT. The world's most difficult course is tough at the best of times never mind when injured but Les put in a professional performance over the two weeks and finished three of his races, picking up two bronze replicas along the way, ensuring further representation for Uel Duncan Racing.
After several months of decreases, the unemployment rate for Alexander, Burke, Caldwell and Catawba counties jumped in May -- to 5.6 percent, up from 5 percent in April, according to the N.C. Employment Security Commission.The increase corresponds with rising jobless figures across the state, where May unemployment stood at 4.6 percent, up from 4.1 percent in April. All but four N.C. counties saw their rates rise. Alexander's rate was 4.7 percent, up from 4 percent; Burke's was 5.6 percent, up from 4.7 percent; Caldwell's was 6.8 percent, up from 6.3 percent; and Catawba's was 5.2 percent, up from 4.7 percent. -- jen aronoff Cleveland County Authorities investigating shooting death of Shelby man SHELBY A 25-year-old man was fatally shot at his home in Shelby early Sunday, police said.

Not at HigbeeCOLD SPRING - It's not the first time, but Lower Township police are using the recent incident of two adults found partially and completely nude on Higbee Beach to remind everyone that it's a no-no to take all your clothes off in public in the township. Police were called to the beach at about 2:30 p.m.
The OED lists baby-daddy and baby-mama as 'colloquial, chiefly African-American' variants of the Jamaican terms baby-father and baby-mother; its first citation for baby-mother hails from the Kingston Daily Gleaner in 1966. Reggae songs using the terms made their way to the U.S. By the late '90s, baby-daddy and baby-mama were appearing regularly in American hip-hop. These days Baby-daddy is the new bling. Baby-mama has even made inroads in Japan. Salon recently called Tom Cruise 'Katie Holmes' baby-daddy' even though the couple is engaged. Real estate developer Bulgarian Land Development said it will start the construction of a holiday complex near Bulgarian sea resort Albena. The building plot on which the complex will be built is located 16 km from the city of Varna and only 1 km from the international E 78 Highway - Istanbul-Bourgas-Varna-Constanza. The complex, which will accommodate 22 detached houses and 97 apartment units with a combined area of 13,000 sq m, should be completed by the end of 2007. The development, located in the vicinity of 3 golf courses, is expected to return 12 mln euro upon completion. Off-plan sales will begin in July. Bulgarian Land Development joined the AIM market of the London Stock Exchange in March 2006, raising 23 mln British pounds. The group is engaged in residential development and expects to operate primarily in the holiday areas of the Black Sea coast and the ski resorts, as well as in Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria.
John McGuinness took his total of Isle of Man TT victories to nine when he led virtually from start to finish to win todays Jester Interactive Superbike race on his Honda Fireblade, in the process setting new lap and race records as well as a new outright lap record. McGuinness also won the race last year. His winning time was 1 hour 48 minutes 52.06 seconds, an average speed of 124.764 miles an hour. Ian Lougher, Honda Fireblade, was second, 39 seconds down on McGuinness with Ian Hutchinson, Kawasaki, a further 23 seconds away in third position. It was Hutchinsons first podium finish. Fourth to sixth were Martin Finnegan, Australian Cameron Donald and Jason Griffiths. The race was run in brilliant sunshine on just about the hottest day of the year in the Island in fact riders had been warned to watch out for melting tar on one stretch of the course! It didnt take long for McGuinness to break his own outright lap record.
