High-speed chase ends in arrest

CARIBOU - A former Van Buren man is facing multiple charges Monday after allegedly leading central Aroostook County police officers on a high-speed chase through several towns before being stopped in Caribou. Joey Ouellette, 26, allegedly stole a 1992 Plymouth Laser in Bucksport, and acquired gasoline he did not pay for in Lincoln before being spotted driving at a high rate of speed in Mars Hill on Monday morning. Before he was arrested, Ouellette raced at speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour, leading police through Westfield, Presque Isle and Caribou. Pelletier said the chase took place over about 25 miles. Police used spiked mats to stop him at Caribou, but even after his tires had been deflated he drove on and then ran from police on foot when the car became disabled. He was arrested on Route 164, not far from where it intersects Route 1.

Q. I have been prescribed iron tablets by my doctor for heavy periods, but I would prefer to find a natural alternative. I still look pale and lack energy, so I am not even sure they are helping. What do you suggest?

Isle of Man TT claims victim

London - Japanese motorcyclist Jun Maeda has died as a result of injuries sustained during a crash in practice for the Isle of Man TT races.

Maeda, 38, from Kyoto, collided with Irish rider Seamus Greene during practice on May 29.

He died in a Manchester hospital after being airlifted from the Isle of Man, off England's north-western coast.

A spokesman for Maeda's team, ASR Evomoto Honda, said: "Since he first raced here in 1997, the TT meant everything to Jun.

"His love for the TT and the island itself made him work hard all year, every year, to get back here. Even after his accident he was talking about coming back to the TT next year.

"Jun used to say the Isle of Man felt like home."

Greene remains in a critical condition in Liverpool's Walton Hospital after sustaining head injuries.

HUTCHINSON PROBES KAWASAKI PROBLEMS

TT rider Ian Hutchinson is turning detective in an effort to cure the mystery problems afflicting his McAdoo Kawasaki machines.

The 26-year-old is counted among the new breed of riders expected to bring pressure to bear upon HM Plant Honda rider John McGuinness at this year's festival.

But though Hutchinson is pleased with his practice times atop the 600cc ZX-6R Supersport bike, his preparations for the Superstock and Superbike races have been plagued by set-up problems afflicting the 1000cc ZX-10R machines.

And after a third-place finish in yesterday's Superbike race, the Bingley-based rider confirmed a rear wheel problem had almost forced his retirement.

Heading into tomorrow's Superstock race Hutchinson told PA Sport: "It's all been going fairly well on the Supersport bike, but it's the big bikes which are causing me problems.
