A Disappointing Weekend At The Glen For Alex

Isle Of Man racing driver Alex Lloyd completed another round of the Indy Pro series at the historic circuit of Watkins Glen in the AFS racing car on the weekend 2nd-4th June. It was an extremely successful test day on the Friday, with Alex topping the timesheets in the sessions by a substantial amount. Weather was consistent throughout, dry and reasonably warm. The day finished with Alex setting a new track record of 1min 38.2 secs, with the previous record being at 1 min 39.6 secs. This set Alex in a good position for the rest of the weekend. Testing went very well, Alex said. We were trying a brand new set up and made big improvements throughout the day. It was nice to be as fast as we were as it really shows that the hard work that every individual within the team has put in over the last few races is really paying off.

From past, a lesson for today

I LIKE TO keep old books around the house, even though many of them sit on shelves unopened for decades. Occasionally, though, they provide remarkable insights into the past and perspectives on the present.

For example, recently I pulled from a shelf a heavy bound volume of The Educational Record for 1950, a quarterly publication of The American Council on Education. A year's subscription was $3, and each issue contained serious scholarly articles like "Higher Education in Postwar Austria."

TT 2006; SIDECARS MONDAY

Nick Crowe and Darren Hope kept the Manx flag flying when they had a comfortable victory in this afternoons VisitIsleofMan.com Sidecar A race in the Isle of Man TT. It was a second win for the local crew, after opening their account last year, and they also recorded their first sub 20 minutes lap of 19 minutes 55.97 seconds (113.571 miles an hour).

Steve Norbury and Scott Parnell had established a slight lead in the opening miles but Crowe and Hope were not in arrears for long. They caught their rivals, moved ahead, steadily increased their advantage and at the chequered flag there was a 47 seconds gap between the two outfits. John Holden and Andrew Winkle worked their way up from seventh position at the end of lap one to take third spot.

Predictions that the race would be one of the most open of the week particularly with the enforced absence of Dave Molyneux and Craig Hallam who crashed in practice - were soon confirmed when news came through that only around ten seconds covered the first eight outfits at Glen Helen on lap one.

DTI Offer FREE 2 day Internet Security Courses for Small Businesses

A key enabler of e-business is security. However, there is a misunderstanding that security is all about IT security protocols. It's not, it is about people and awareness. Small/ medium size organisations and consumers are the most vulnerable groups. In general, they are the least aware of the threats of cyber crime; they have the least knowledge of the basic steps that can be taken to protect themselves and they have the least assistance available to them. You, as managers/owners need to take responsibility for your companys security policy and to increase awareness and education within your business of the threats posed by the internet and the basic steps that can be taken to protect your on-line business - Last year, 67% of companies suffered a virus attack. - Less than 20% of companies carry out security audits.

Better tax breaks urged to attract more films

FILM production needs better tax incentives if it is to be attracted to Scotland, according to Paul McGuigan, a leading Hollywood director who remains based in Glasgow.
The rising star said Scottish Screen, the Scottish Executive's agency promoting the film industry, should ensure Scotland was more proactive in marketing itself as a location.
"I think Scottish Screen realises it has great potential and that Scotland is an untapped resource, but it has not sold itself hard enough," he said.
The 43-year-old film director has experience of working with Bruce Willis on Lucky Number Slevin. He directed Gangster No 1, a film version of The Equaliser, and the Acid House, based on Irvine Welsh's book.
He told Holyrood magazine that Scotland could learn from the Isle of Man, which offers tax breaks to film makers, and that more should be done to make Scotland financially attractive as a location.

UK. SeaSafe celebrates 40th anniversary with new product launches ...

2006 is proving to be an eventful year for SeaSafe as the company celebrates its 40th anniversary with a move from its current factory and offices, near the centre of Cowes on the Isle of Wight, to a much larger factory just outside the port. The company has also been very busy on the new product front with the mid- year launch of innovative products such as Hypo Hoist, an award winning man overboard retrieval device that quickly and easily recovers a conscious or unconscious person from the water; a range of undersuits manufactured from the new, ultra lightweight Flectalon material that SeaSafe claim are the warmest available today and a rescue blanket, also manufactured from the revolutionary Flectalon material, that will insulate the user even in the most extreme cold and could potentially save the life of someone suffering from the effects of immersion hypothermia.
