Rennie Finishes In Top Ten In Both Isle Of Man TT Superbike Races

Hawk Kawasaki rider Carl Rennie had a fantastic week at the Isle of Man TT achieving some great results for the Hawk Team. The 36-year-old shone in the two Superbike races scoring a seventh and sixth place respectively and gaining a 17th and 14th position in the Supersport and Superstock races. The Lancashire based rider had a near perfect week despite losing his gear lever in the Supersport Junior TT forcing him to lose a number of places and relegating him the 17th position, his worst result of the week. Rennie pulled out all the stops in the Superbike races, competing on the 04 ZX10. The bike which took John McGuinness to runner-up place at the 2004 Ulster GP and also the same machine which took Scott Smart to his maiden victory at the British Superbike race at Mondello Park. Rennie's fastest lap time was an average speed of 124.876mph, which puts him the 13th fastest rider in the history of the TT, faster than TT legends such as Joey Dunlop, Jim Moodie and Phil McCallen.

Anstey the TT Superstock Master

TAS riders Bruce Anstey and Mark Miller handed Suzuki a double showroom victory in the Scottish Life International TT Superstock race on Monday, proving that the GSXR Suzuki machines are very much top of their production classes. Anstey, the winner of this event for the past two years started with a blistering 125mph lap from a standing start to fend off the challenge of Ian Hutchinson, and after 115 miles of racing with one lap remaining, less than two seconds covered the pair. On the final circuit Anstey turned the screw on his GSXR1000 TAS Suzuki posting a lap of 126.20mph to take the win from Hutchinson and Jason Griffiths.

Miller from Long Beach in California was making his TT debut and a stunning final lap of 117.91mph gave him the distinction of being the first 750cc machine to cross the line, completing a prolific production race double for the Suzuki marque.

Kelly gets Ireland's call

AS the All Blacks and Ireland line-up for national songs at Eden Park in nine days, the spotlight will fall on a passionate Pakuranga musician and vocalist.Irish ex-pat Sean Kelly, originally from Derry City, has been selected to sing Ireland’s rugby anthem in front of an excited and heaving Eden Park crowd, moments from the start of the second test in the All Blacks-Ireland series.Mr Kelly is thrilled to have been chosen for the national duty. Like many ex-pat Irish folk, Mr Kelly loves being a New Zealander, having lived here for 16 years. But as the old saying goes, you can take the man out of Ireland, but you can’t take the Irish out of the man.In January, Mr Kelly was featured by the Times, after he was named a finalist in the best folk album category in the New Zealand Music Awards, for his work, See The Light. He’ll sing the Irishmen’s rugby anthem, Ireland’s Call, which was officially adopted in the 1990s.That’s because the Irish rugby side has always represented the whole of the Emerald Isle, drawing players from Eire as well as Northern Ireland’s famous province, Ulster, where two of the game’s greatest players, 1960s and 1970s stars Willie John McBride and Mike Gibson, hailed from.

Lavilla defies Mallory demons to extend lead

Gregorio Lavilla had to settle for third place in the opening race at Mallory Park, but the defending Bennetts British Superbike champion hit back to win the second race of the sixth round and tighten his hold on the crown.

The Spanish rider had complained of a lack of grip in the first race as he struggled to match the pace of Ryuichi Kiyonari - who posted his first victory since the opening round at Brands Hatch - but Lavilla's Airwaves Ducati team solved the problem next time out.

The Japanese rider made the early running but Lavilla, starting from pole, was in close pursuit, and with a smooth move through the chicane he went ahead on the sixth lap and powered on to a seventh win of the campaign.

"It was unbelievable," the defending champion said. "In the first race I was struggling and not happy because I could not fight for the victory, but my team made changes, and I have won on what is my worst circuit in the series."

Behind Lavilla, his team-mate Leon Haslam overcame a missed gear to match his second place in the opener, with Kiyonari third.

Islands try to escape city's reach

GRANITE SHOALS — Even with the occasional water moccasin, life is good on Beaver Island, one of the most beautiful and expensive neighborhoods on Lake LBJ.

Popular with retirees and those able to afford weekend homes that can top $800,000, the man-made island is an immaculate paradise of cool breezes and backyard fishing.

'He's pretty beat up'

"I understand he's pretty beat up, though. I've seen pictures. He doesn't look too good. His face is gone and he's in about six or seven pieces. We'll just have to evaluate the situation and see what can be done."

The statue's restoration, if one is possible, will have to wait.

The mutilated fisherman is evidence against the man charged with felony theft, 37-year-old Herman Allen Hicks of Semmes, Ala. He will be extradited to Biloxi from Mobile County, where the dismembered fisherman's parts were found Tuesday in a creek and several miles away in overgrown weeds on a vacant lot.

Biloxians anxious to get back a piece of their heritage can thank a tipster, who spied the fisherman after news stories ran about his disappearance, and three Mobile County sheriff's officers: Detective Sgt.
