Rebels beat off Exeter challenge.

West Country Speedway fans were heartened by the sight of the Exeter Falcons Race Jacket once again taking to the track, as the Somerset "Mike Manning Audio" Rebels hosted a representative Exeter Falcons side in the "West Country Challenge.

The Falcons have been homeless since the closure of their County Ground home late last year, but the new management team have kept the team in the publics eye with matches like this. The Rebels were at full strength, with the exception of the injured Paul Fry, but made a change to the riding order with Glen Phillips moving to Fry's Number 4 slot, and rider replacement at Number 2. The Exeter side consisted of two ex-Falcons, in Mark Lemon, and County Ground legend, Michael Coles, backed up by a solid looking trio of Brent Werner. Tommy Allen, and new Aussie sensation Chris Holder, with a reserve pairing of Jordan Frampton, and Stoke's Luke Priest.

Prefuse 73 and Edan Kick Off Tour

Prefuse 73 and Edan kick off their summer tonight, rhymin' and rollin' their way across America. Folks concerned that this is going to be another boring series of lonely-DJ-spinning-his-records appearances have nothing to worry about. Prefuse recently announced via MySpace that his live band is in tow, featuring "d.j. nobody, reminder, leb laze, and the other troops." He later clarified that "the other troops" means "the best fucking drummer on earth." Sounds like "the best fucking drummer on earth" took umbrage to being lumped in with the troops.

After Prefuse wraps up the tour with Edan in June, he recharges his batteries and slaps in a new stylus for an August show in New York City's Central Park.

Teen ace shuns Comets in bid to ride for Scorpions

TEENAGER Richie Dennis says he doesn't want to commit himself to Workington Comets despite an eye-catching display last Saturday which made him favourite for a permanent role in the team. Dennis, 18, explained that he wants to be able to ride for Scunthorpe next season if they make the transition to the Premier League. Although flattered by Workington's interest and having enjoyed his outing for the Comets against Newcastle last Saturday, Dennis wants to concentrate on the Conference League with the Scorpions. Comets boss Graham Drury said: “He wasn't interested in joining us as our Grade C reserve rider for the rest of the season because he wants to keep himself clear in case Scunthorpe make the move up. “The Scunthorpe management haven't definitely decided to do that but it is a possibility.

Lougher maintains lead in Rankings

Current Duke Road Race Rankings Champion, Ian Lougher maintains his number one position in the 2006 tables after the Steam Packet Junior Supersport TT, in which he finished fifth, in what was a record breaking race in excellent conditions. HM Plant Honda rider John McGuinness scored his second start to finish victory of the TT Festival 2006, setting new lap and race records, when he held off a concerted race long challenge from McAdoo Kawasaki team rider Ian Hutchinson, with TAS Suzuki rider Bruce Anstey taking third. Lougher has increased his points advantage to 65 points over Anstey, with Hutchinson still third, just 28 points adrift over the Kiwi. John McGuinness moves up to fourth, ahead of Cameron Donald, who took sixth place in the Junior Supersport TT. Biggest climber was Jason Griffiths who moved up four places to 16th, after his fourth place ride today.

Another day... another film star in action on the streets of Wales

WALES' reputation as an international film set took another step forward yesterday as Sean Bean arrived to shoot his new film on location.

The Lord of the Rings star followed hot on the heels of Hollywood actor Wesley Snipes who was also filming car chases and action scenes in the capital this week.

In what has been a packed few days for Wales, the filming of Snipes's The Shooter and Bean's Outlaw cements Wales' explosion on to the big screen.

There has even been a visit from Wales' own A-lister Catherine Zeta-Jones, who wasn't filming, and later this week it's the premiere of Demi Moore's new film Half Light, part-filmed in Anglesey.

Penny Skuse, information officer of the Wales Screen Commission, said, "Since January we have never been so busy."

Harbor Master: The Rebirth Of a Classic Racing Yacht

LA SPEZIA, Italy -- It's 4 a.m. and Dutchman Johan van den Bruele is wide awake. He's been looking forward to this day for five years, ever since he first saw Lulworth in a Ligurian boatyard looking like a decomposed whale, but one with great bones. On this clear April morning, the classic racing yacht from the 1920s is shimmering in the water, and Mr. van den Bruele is going sailing. "It's fantastic," he says. "Especially after four and a half years in a shipyard."

Mr. van den Bruele built his first boat, a small dinghy, at age 10 with ...

We love Germany

It’s not just about the football. For the next four weeks, Germany wants desperately to charm the lederhosen off us in every possible way — to persuade the world that it can host a lot more than football tournaments, opera marathons and beer festivals: “You went out on penalties, now come back on holiday.” And, perhaps surprisingly, not everyone needs convincing. Quietly (efficiently?), Germany has become a destination for discerning travellers.

Not, admittedly, in the short term, when men with St George’s crosses creosoted into their chest hair will be doing their best to render the entire nation uninhabitable — but, once the tear gas clears, what will remain is an unfailingly polite, hospitable country, in quiet possession of a handful of genuinely special destinations. A trickle of Brits are already choosing the Bavarian Alps over the money-grubbier French and Italian sections, sampling the vinicultural peace of Franconia ahead of the Loire, even plumping for the quirky chic of the northern coast in summer, rather than the crowds, costs and, well, Germans tarnishing the Med.

Surfcasters should enjoy perfect week

They say it's about being in the right place at the right time to make dreams come true, and I'd say that trusty adage applies directly to this week's surf fishing.

I know I've been barking about the big bass activity the past few weeks, but this only comes around once a year, so it's worth it to give it another solid week of coverage, especially now.

Why now?

Look at the tides this week, they're perfect for the surf fisherman. High tides will lay into the shoreline from 5 a.m. through 9 a.m. all weekend, with heavy water flooding the shores in the promo morning hours, as well as the evening hours. Add to that attractive adult bunker schools that still hover along the coast, throw in some schools of flashy, tasty hickory shad, and you've got a recipe to put a trophy pair of Ol' Pajamas onto the beach.

Sports Round-up

Valentino Rossi, the five times winner of the World MotoGP crown, has committed himself to riding for the Yamaha team through to the end of the 2007 season, during which the series will change to an 800cc formula.

The Italian will play a big part in the development of the team's new bike but first he is determined to put his title bid back on track with a victory in Sunday's sixth round at Mugello.

- Dave Molyneux, the record 11 times winner of the Isle of Man Sidecar TT races, sustained chest and shoulder injuries in a heavy crash at around 130 mph during practice yesterday on the Rhencullen section of the 37.73-mile Mountain Course.

His passenger, Craig Hallam, was also taken to hospital in Douglas for treatment to friction burns.

Touring Cars

Eoin Murray will make his British Touring Car debut at Croft in July.
