Police investigating multiple burglary rings in Franklin, Grand Isle counties

Vermont State Police have arrested a 25-year-old Highgate man believed to be the leader of one of several burglary rings simultaneously operating in Franklin and Grand Isle counties over the past six weeks.

Jason Bockus was taken into custody on an outstanding arrest warrant Tuesday night after a tipster told police Bockus was responsible for several recent burglaries in the area and said where he could be found in Georgia.

"We were already looking for him," Vermont State Police Detective Lt. Brian Miller said.

Bockus has a criminal record that includes a 2005 burglary conviction, and had disappeared in April while on furlough, Miller said. Bockus appeared in Vermont District Court in St. Albans on Wednesday and was ordered held for lack of $10,000 bail on an escape charge.

Gamebookers Restate Offer to Even Up Wimbledon Prize Money

Gamebookers, the global online betting and casino company has restated its offer of 30,000 pounds Sterling to the eventual winner of the Wimbledon's women's singles competition in response to Wimbledon organisers defiance in awarding equal prize money to men and women.

The 30,000 pounds Sterling has been set aside by Gamebookers and will make up the shortfall to take women's prize money to 655,000 pounds Sterling, equal to that of the men's competition.

The issue has raised its head now that Wimbledon is upon us and a number of women's tennis stars are voicing their opinions. Venus Williams feels, "Wimbledon's stance devalues the principle of meritocracy(i)."

Culture Secretary Tessa Jowell added her views by stating she would like to join the chorus of voices across tennis urging the Wimbledon organizers to consign the inequality to the past and bring the prize structure in line with the rest of world tennis.

Scot free Monty looking more relaxed than ever

MAMARONECK, N.Y. – On Day 1 at the U.S. Open, Winged Foot West won. If we were to measure the round collectively, after 18 holes give "Tillie's" beast a 3-up jump out of the gate.

Twenty-two rounds in the 80s, a scoring average nearly six strokes over par, just a single card in the red. It's a familiar tune, played out in Dolby surround sound.

You didn't have to have one of those silver competitor's money clips and a Thursday tee time to see the damage that was done. Simply put, the wind and that wild rough conspired to end more than a few Open dreams before they ever took flight.

There was an Open tale that seemed to discover a second wind amid all those 15 mph gusts on Thursday.

Advantage Nicholls for BRC Rallymasters

The third round of the BRC Rallymasters takes place in the Jim Clark National Rally and joint championship leader Will Nicholls has been handed an advantage heading to the event with the news that rival points leader Nigel Griffiths will not contest the tarmac event.

BRC Rallymasters Astra Stages winner Nicholls and Pirelli National Rally winner Griffiths are tied on 36 points apiece heading to the tarmac of Kelso but work commitments have forced Griffiths to miss the event, meaning that all Nicholls needs to do is finish in the points to take the lead.

Its a shame but work commitments have come up meaning I have to miss the Jim Clark, says Powys-based Griffiths. I dont think we would have been able to compete with Will on the tarmac anyway, but well give him a bit of a lead before we get back at him later in the season.
